the summary
Trevor Tayes, a clumsy beefcake bigger than your average doorway, is glum, newly single, and too awkward to mingle. Haunted by the memories of his troubled upbringing, Trevor’s self-doubt and penchant for panic leave him yearning for stability above all else—but it always seems just out of reach. Luckily, whenever shit goes sideways, his mom, friends, and weirdo Meat Sweats bandmates are always there to ground him. He is, quite apologetically, a creature of comfort, stuck in an unnatural habitat: discontent.
Leila Matthews, conversely, is a tenacious, independent woman with a five-year plan. The pink-haired bombshell checks yet another goal off her list, landing her dream job in her hometown…but upon moving back, her life takes an unanticipated turn, and she is forced to temporarily move in with her parents and chaotic, eclectic younger siblings.
Suffice it to say, Trevor and Leila both crave the same thing: a clean break. One night, before the most grueling Meat Sweats performance of his life, Trevor finds his voice and takes a daring leap. That same night, he and Leila unexpectedly cross paths, flipping their worlds upside down. Though they learn maybe there is no such thing as a new beginning, perhaps they can change the ending. Together.
As Trevor and Leila’s friendship and chemistry grows, so does their concept of love—one that Trevor has never known, and one that Leila has always wanted. Navigating outrageous family functions, reconciling generational trauma, jamming at metal concerts, and other stirring adventures; together, Trevor and Leila fumble through thick and thin, until eventually they find stability—in themselves, and each other.
